We love to spread the word about good things happening in our community! In fact, it’s one of the main reasons we plan to stay in this business for another decade or two. We give limit free announcements to groups that have a primary purpose of charitable work or fundraising for charitable work, and/or are open to all for free or at a nominal cost.
Format Guidelines
- Be brief! Please limit your item to 100 words or less, including a headline of no more than 45 characters. We rarely have time to edit for length, so a long press release is very likely to go unused.
- Please submit your announcement in written form (preferably in body of e-mail with no attachments or photos)
- Use third-person language — that is, “The club will hold its meeting…” and not “We will hold our meeting…”
Content Guidelines
We reserve the right to refuse any Community Note, and the right to edit any announcement for space or clarity. To be considered for free space in Our Town, your announcement must:
- Publicize an activity or a need of a non-profit entity.
- Offer information we feel will be useful to our readers.
- NOT lead to financial benefit to any person or group other than a bona fide charitable entity or endeavor.
- NOT promote any activity that discriminates on the basis of race, ethnicity, or religion
Special Guidelines for Churches
With so many churches and so little space, we can’t run announcements for regular church services. We limit church announcements to special events of a charitable, educational, entertainment, or fundraising nature, and that are open to all.
